Obituary for Nikolai A. Alexandrenko PhD

Funeral services for Dr. Nikolai Alexandrenko will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Trinity Baptist Church, Pineville, Louisiana with Rev. Darryl J. Hoychick officiating. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery, Pineville, Louisiana, under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana.

Nikolai Alexandrenko, Dr. Nik, was born May 7, 1922 in Kletnya, Russia and died February 3, 2015 joining his wife Mae in Heaven.

In 1930, under Stalin, his family was collectivized, gave up their farm and moved to Bryansk. Agrippina, his mother, died there in 1930. The collective farm was moved to Ukraine where he attended school until he joined the Russian Army in 1940.

Nikolai was promoted to Lieutenant, moved to Moscow in 1941 and given command of a Brigade in 1942. He was wounded and captured in 1943 and imprisoned near Munich, Germany until his release on May 8, 1945.

As a refugee near Munich he joined the Baptist Mission and served as a preacher to refugees. In 1951 he was brought to Louisiana College by the Baptist Student Union where he was given a scholarship. After graduating there he enrolled in the New Orleans Baptist Seminary and Tulane University graduating with Masters and Doctorates in Theology and Classical Languages.

He returned to Louisiana College where he taught Languages, Theology and Bible, retiring in 1989. Dr. Nik participated as the primary professor in the Odessa Theological Seminary from 1991 to 1998. The Ukrainian seminary has grown to offer studies for the ministry and graduate studies in Theology. The seminary received support financially from Dr. Nik until 2012 when he became disabled.

Dr. Alexandrenko was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Frances Alexandrenko and a daughter, Lydia.

He is survived by three sons, Paul Alexandrenko (Linda) of Lafayette, David Alexandrenko of Pineville and Nicholas Alexandrenko ( Danielle) of Tioga; three daughters, Belinda Alexandrenko of Baton Rouge, Nina Long (Jeff) of Nashville, TN and Rebecca O’Neal (Mitch) of Alexandria; twelve grandchildren, Melissa, Derek, Ashley, Joshua, Tyson, Nikko, Carmen, Alexis, Lucas, Michelle, Will and Andrew; six great grandchildren, Alexandra Mae, Elizabeth, Nikolai, Amelia, Morgan and Darby.

Friends may call at Trinity Baptist Church, Pineville, Louisiana on Friday, February 6, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
