Obituary for Harold James "Bird" Hoffman

Memorial services for Mr. Harold “Bird” Hoffman will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017 in the Chapel of Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana with Father Stephen Brandow officiating, under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory, Ball, Louisiana.

Mr. Hoffman, age 58, of Ball, Louisiana, entered eternal rest on Monday, July 31, 2017 at Ochsner Medical Center, Metairie, Louisiana, surrounded by his loving family.

He retired from the United States Air Force after 17 years of service and he also worked for the Alexandria VA as a Draftsman in the Engineering division for over 17 years. Bird served as the Past Commander of DAV. He was very involved with the Veteran’s Honor Guard and was a member of the Alexandria Honor Guard. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Gayle Hoffman of Ball; mother, Nellie Hoffman of Baltimore; one son, James Hoffman of Ball; one daughter, Heather Hoffman of Ball; four brothers, Gilman Hoffman (Kathy) of Bel Air, Maryland, Thomas Hoffman (Joan) of Bel Air, Maryland, Jeffrey Hoffman (Pam) of Glenrock, Pennsylvania and Richard Hoffman (Connie) of Delaware; six grandchildren, Payton Almond, Jacie Dupree, Josie Hoffman, Knox Hoffman, Mila Tallman and Mark Tallman.

Friends may visit on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana from 2:00 p.m. until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made to the Alexandria-Pineville Honor Guard, P.O. Box 3294, Pineville, LA 71361.
