Obituary for Ernestine Bridges (Slay)
Funeral services for Mrs. Ernestine Bridges will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Holloway Baptist Church, Deville, Louisiana with Dr. Jack West officiating. Interment will be in Holloway Baptist Church Cemetery, Deville, Louisiana, under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home of Ball, Louisiana.
Mrs. Bridges, age 88, of Deville, Louisiana, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Oak Haven Community Care Center, Centerpoint, Louisiana.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Mrs. Bridges retired after 25 years of service as the Director of Vocational Education for the Rapides Parish School system. She was a graduate of Louisiana College and Northwestern State University with a Master’s in Education +30. She was a lifelong member of Holloway Baptist Church, Deville, La.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John C. Bridges; parents, Edgar and Rose Slay; two brothers, Wesley Slay and Claude Slay; two sisters, Willie Mae Belgard and Clydie Nugent.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Arlene Nugent (Travis) of Holloway and Betty Bridges Miller (Stan) of Holloway; two brothers, Roy L. and Clois Slay of Holloway; one sister, Edna Jameson of Holloway; grandchildren, Ladonna Brown (Kevin), Sissy Williams (Jon), Karen Nugent, Scott Nugent (Crystal), Laurie Scherr (Joel) and Trey Miller; great grandchildren, Skyler Brown (Courtney), Tanner Brown, Kaylea Vaughn, Devin Vaughn, Tayler Brown, Cody Nugent, Caleb Nugent, Eli Williams and Lexie Williams; many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Friends may call on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Holloway Baptist Church, Deville, Louisiana from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
