Obituary for William Charles Whittenberg

Funeral services for William Charles Whittenberg will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 11:00 AM at New Life Church, 296 LA-1204 in Ball, Louisiana, under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory in Ball, Louisiana with Reverends Anthony Mangun and Gentry Mangun officiating.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Joshua Whittenberg, Brad Pressley, Reid Pressley, Arthur Early, John Early, and Andrew Finch.

Visitation will be held beginning on Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 9:00 AM until service time on Saturday all at the church.

William Charles Whittenberg, age 73, a resident of Ball, Louisiana, entered eternity on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Whittenberg; his father, John Whittenberg; his mother and step-father, Edith and Darrell Warden; and his sister, Joyce Whittenberg.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Jane Porter Whittenberg; his loving children, Amy Adams (Robbie), Carrie Gibbs (Stephen), Sarah Pressley (Brad), and Joshua Whittenberg (Angela); his daughter-in-law, Debbie Whittenberg; his 15 grandchildren, Jesse Whittenberg, Marian Whittenberg, Annika Whittenberg, Mary Brown (Mike), Marshall Adams, Annecy Adams, Charles Adams, Chris Gibbs, Mariah Little (Taylor), Malorie McManus, Reid Pressley (Carly), Abigail Murray (Chance), Dara Pressley, Taylor Whittenberg, and Callista Whittenberg; his 10 great grandchildren, Jackson Adams, Preston Brown, Karter Adams, Oryn Lachney, Kendal Adams, Layla Little, Lincoln Little, Livinia Little, Levi Murray, and Ryleigh Murray; his numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

William began his law enforcement career at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado completing his Colorado Law enforcement certificate in 1974. After moving to Louisiana, he was a Ball policemen for 6 years before joining the Rapides Parrish Sherriff’s Department where he remained until his retirement in 2006 after over 20 years of faithful service as a detective. He completed LSU Law Enforcement Institute in 1988 receiving the Magnolia State Peace Officer’s Award for highest scholastic average. He also earned several other honors and accolades during his career. William was a member of Pentecostals of Alexandria for 47 years where he taught Sunday School for 3-year-olds and 14- year - olds as well as serving in youth ministry and bus routes. He also served as an usher and was known to be involved in bible studies, Messiah production and on the mission’s hotline committee. An avid outdoorsman, William enjoyed gardening and fishing. Above all, he enjoyed spending quality time with his family.

William was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
