Obituary for Wanda Joyce Thoman (Rose)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and dear friend. Wanda Joyce Rose Fouts Thoman left this earth for her heavenly home on Sunday, November 29, 2020 after suffering a brief but inspirational battle with pneumonia. She was young at heart and lived a rich full life to the age of 79.

Wanda was born in Shreveport, LA on October 21, 1941, where she lived through early adulthood. She was a 1959 graduate of C.E. Byrd High School where she served as a Student Council Representative, member of the Pep Squad and volunteer office staff. Additionally, she was member of the Rainbow Girls and active in Methodist Youth Fellowship programs at Cedar Grove Methodist Church.

She married James R. Fouts, Jr. on December 19, 1959. Together they raised three children, Dennis, David, and Roseanne. In 1972 they moved to North Little Rock, AR where she was a homemaker, a college student, and worked in a medical office as an administrator.

In 1976 they moved to Slidell, LA where she was actively involved in the Lakewood Garden Club, Parent Teacher Association, and the First United Methodist Church. In addition to taking exceptional care of her family, she worked as an office administrator and bookkeeper at various medical practices. Part-time, she attended undergraduate classes at the University of New Orleans and Delgado Community College.

On January 18, 1980, she married Louis E. Thoman (Bud). Their blended family consisted of 5 sons and 2 daughters. Together, Wanda and Bud enjoyed travel, music, and a love for Shih Tzus, of which over the years, they adopted three – Pete, Mosby, and JayJay.

In the early spring of 2000, they moved to Ball, LA where Wanda worked and later retired from Hixson Autoplex of Alexandria. She was an active member of Palestine United Methodist Church where she served on the Finance Committee and as Secretary of the Administrative Council. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women.

Wanda developed deep and long lasting friendships which were cherished for the abundance of love and laughter brought into her life. She enjoyed books. playing bridge and Words with Friends, and especially the company of loved ones.

Wanda was an extraordinarily beautiful lady who gracefully and with a keen sense of humor survived two separate and courageous battles against breast cancer. She will be missed by those who knew and adored her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Flossie Rose; her brother Bewford Rose; her sister, Agnes Mangum; and her grandson, Jacob Allen Gillespie.

Those who are left to mourn her passing and revere her memory are by blood and love her children: Dennis Fouts of Uncertain, TX; David Fouts (Tammy) of Greenwell Springs; Roseanne Borland (Marty) of Boyce, LA; Dave Thoman of Tyron, GA; John Thoman(Carolyn)of Baton Rouge, LA; Laura Upton(Bill) of Sugarland, TX; and Eddy Thoman(Lisa) of Newman, GA. Grandchildren: Kaz Kean, Kyle Fouts, Kade Fouts, Kamryn Fouts, John David Gillespie, Colby Thoman, Jacob Thoman, Chelsea Thoman, Olivia Upton, Alice Upton, three great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date at Palestine United Methodist Church in Ball, LA.
