Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer D. Knight and Vera Owens Knight and a sister, Wilma Ann Knight Brister.
Those left to cherish Mr. Knight’s memory are his beloved wife of 30 years, Dianne Moses Knight; one son, Joseph Knight (Tonya); one step-son, David Hooper (Jill); three grandchildren, Logan Knight, Zachary Knight and Taylor Hooper; and one sister, Clara Knight Laird (Wayne).
Mr. Knight attended Tioga High School and quit in the tenth grade. He later went on to get his GED. Walter was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served as Vice President of Liberty Chapel Hunting Club for a number of years, and he loved fishing. If he wasn’t hunting, he was fishing and sometimes doing both.
In his working life, he was a motorcycle mechanic, owner and operator of Knight’s Trucking Company. He later attended the Alexandria Police Academy and worked for the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Knight moved to Union Grove, Texas, where he became Chief of Police. After being injured in the line of duty, he was inducted into the Policeman’s Hall of Fame. In 1989, he returned to Louisiana, where he worked for the Grant Parish Police Jury. In 1992, Mr. Knight worked for the City of Alexandria as a Scada Operator, until his health began to decline, and he retired on September 1, 2008.
Mr. Knight met his lovely wife, Dianne in 1991 and they married on February 17, 1998. Their life together was in Grant Parish.
Mr. Knight was a member of Community Baptist Church of Tioga. He loved serving God in every capacity, as a member, then as the President of the Trustees, also as a cook and much more.
Walter was well known in Grant Parish. Mr. Knight was known for his gardening. He enjoyed raising produce so that he could give it away to anyone who needed or wanted it. He even posted a sign that said, “Knight’s Green Patch”. He never met a stranger and it seemed like he knew everybody and their brother.
Last but not least, Mr. Knight loved his family. He was the youngest of three children. He and his sisters stayed close to the very end. His son and step-son were very dear to him, but his grandchildren put light in his day. He loved spending time with them and teaching them new things, even when they got older. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, and brother and he will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
