Obituary for Steve Mitchell Johns

Steve Mitchell Johns was born to Albert Enoch Johns and Mildred Vondee Tucker, on February 4, 1957. He passed from this life on February 3, 2022, at his residence, after a long struggle with pulmonary fibrosis.

He grew up on a farm in Jigger, LA, and learned how to fix machinery and weld at a young age. He was a very talented welder, and could make anything he put his mind to. Throughout his lifetime he worked in the oil fields, farming, and welding, which was his passion. He spent his last few days with his great nephew, Gabe Ferrington, repairing his welding truck, and going through welding tools, and he truly had a few of the best days he had had in a very long time.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mildred Johns; his sisters Mildred Vondee Johns, Alberta Orr, and Gloria Jane Lively; his ex-wife, Barbara Johns Polk, the mother of his only child.

Survivors include his son, Steve Mitchell Johns, Jr.; siblings, Douglas Johns, and wife, Paula of Pineville, LA; Wayne Johns, and wife, Ruta of Calhoun, LA; Joan Johns Ferrington of Deville, LA; Sharon Johns Lutiker of Eros, LA; Beverly Johns Miller of Picayune, MS; his special great nephew, Gabe Ferrington; his beloved dog, Moe; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorial service for Steve Johns will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Open Door Community Church, 12960 Hwy 28 East, Deville, Louisiana.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to St. Joseph's Hospice for the care and compassion they provided during these last few months.
