Obituary for Starling Dexter Barton

Starling Dexter Vernon Barton moved from this life in Pollock, Louisiana on November 23, 2023. He was born on September 6,1933 to David and Gracie Barton, in Bentley, Louisiana and was the youngest of five (5) siblings, who all preceded him in death. (Herschel Travis Barton, Phillip Owen Turner, Voncille Dewitt and Billie Elmore). His grandson, Shane Maxwell and son-in-law, Wayne Broussard also preceded him in death.

His legacy lives on in his wife of 51 years, Elsie Underhill Barton, daughters LaDonna Wampler (Garland) and Lawana Broussard and son, Dewayne Barton (Debbie), 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He attended Dry Prong High School until his junior year when he transferred to Southwestern Assembly of God University in Waxahachie, TX., where he received his diploma.

He was employed by Holsum Bakery where he worked in management for 15 years in south Louisiana.
Dexter then moved back home to Bentley, LA. where he worked for Louisiana Industries for 30 years in Maintenance Management and Aggregate.

Dexter and Elsie were dedicated members of Palestine Methodist Church for 50 years where he taught Sunday School and served on many committees and boards.

His hobbies included rodeoing, chicken and cattle farming, horseback riding and gardening.

Due to the possibility of inclement weather, the Memorial Service was been moved to Palestine Methodist Church, on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Carolyn Fletcher officiating.
