Obituary for Sheila Mae West (Smith)
Dr. Sheila Mae West, age 78 of Alexandria, Louisiana entered eternal rest on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
Sheila was born on September 3, 1943 in St. Louis to Chester and Elaine Smith. In the 1980's, she moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where she met her late husband, Frank Corcoran. in 2005, after hurricane Katrina, she moved to central Louisiana, eventually settling in Alexandria, where she lived the rest of her days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Sherry McKay. She is survived by her daughter, Ashley Corcoron-West; her two grandchildren, Remy Corcoran-West and Rahleigh Sanders; long time caregiver and friend, Danise Swan; and other friends and family.
Her life's passion was learning, especially about the human mind. She had gotten her Ph.D. in psychology and worked in that field until retirement. She loved helping families, children, and adolescents. She was a member of Mensa and the American Psychology Association among other things. She lived her life for her daughter and grandchildren before passing away from heart complications at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana. She was cremated at Gallagher Funeral Home, which were always her wishes. Her daughter will have services when it is possible.
