Obituary for Sally Rusk Eckert

On May 17, 2022, Sally Rusk Eckert took her final breath, surrounded by loved ones. The sun rose and the world welcomed Sally on September 7, 1954. That day the world became a little brighter. Sally lived a full and warm life, filled with adventure and love. She will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.

Sally is survived by daughter, Esther Hill and husband Franklin Hill, daughter, Emily Gist Wilkinson and wife Jes Wilkinson, grandchildren, Layla Hill, Logan Marcotte, Madilyn Hill, and Isabella Marcotte. Sally is preceded in death by father, Wiliam Freeman Eckert, mother, Hazel Rusk Eckert, sisters, Amy Katherine Eckert and Diane Eckert Tynes.

Sally spent many of her years enjoying the sea, sand, and beauty of the Bahamas and mostly Mexico. She was best known for her cooking, painting, and land title research. She rode out many storms on the sea, including her final days fighting cancer. We are so grateful that her horizon in heaven will be filled with gentle waves, beautiful light, and unimaginable love.

Her family would like to express their most sincere gratitude to Heart of Hospice, Cabrini Cancer Center, as well as the amazing staff of Cabrini and Rapides Regional Hospitals, and all of the many friends that have held their hands along the way.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 3, 2022 at Gallaghers Funeral Home in Ball. Visitation at 5:00 pm. Memorial service at 6:00 pm.
