Funeral Services for Richard Lewis Smith, Sr. will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory in Ball, Louisiana with Reverend Mike Hedrick officiating. Interment to follow at Restland Memorial Gardens in Pollock, Louisiana.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Shane Neal, Mike Neal, Charlie Gross, Nathan McLaughlin, Coby Sharbono, and Kenneth LaVergne.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022 from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM at Gallagher Funeral Home in Ball, Louisiana.
Mr. Richard Lewis Smith, Sr., age 73 of Lafayette, Louisiana, formerly of Dry Prong, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Richard was preceded in death by his son, Richard “Chip” Lewis Smith Jr.; his father, Charles F. Smith Sr.; his mother, Eudora Conrad Dortch; and his siblings, Russell Smith, Sarah Zupanick, James Baker, and Sherriann Dortch.
He is survived by his wife, Fay Lavergne Smith; his daughter, Jacklyn Smith Neal (Mike); his grandchildren, Megan Cubbit, Amber Smith, Shane Neal, Emilie Smith, and Nicole Neal; his great grandchildren, Madesun Barnhill, Conner Dobernig, and Stella; his siblings, Charles Smith Jr., Shari Dortch (Jim), Elva Chambless, Harriet Drobny, Sondra Richards (Jeff), Jeannie Roebuck, and Carl Dortch (Stacia); other family and friends.
Richard was a hard worker who worked on the oil rigs offshore for over 30 years. He loved to fish, read western novels, watch old western movies, and listen to old country music. He was a very kind person who had a heart of gold and was known to always be around to help others. He enjoyed his hotrods especially those with a custom paint job; and was a fast car enthusiast. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, he will deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
