Obituary for Paul Maurice Smith
Funeral services for Mr. Paul Maurice Smith will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Verda Baptist Church, 2688 Highway 122, Montgomery, LA , with Reverend Braden Martin officiating. Burial will follow in St. Rose Cemetery, Aloha, La. under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation for Mr. Smith will be at Verda Baptist Church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
Mr. Smith entered eternal rest on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Canterbury House in Alexandria, Louisiana after a lengthy illness.
A long time Grant Parish educator, Maurice began his career as a teacher and coach at Verda High School and then at Montgomery High School. He was a principal of Montgomery High School from 1969-1985 then supervisor of Grant Parish Secondary Education until his retirement. He then worked another ten years as a program director for Volunteers of America.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Mapp and Jenny Smith. He was also preceded in death by his son, Whitney Smith, his sisters Anice LaCroix, Dorothy Dunn and Mary Dell Fletcher, his brothers, Leo Smith, Elmo Smith and Bobby Smith.
Mr. Smith is survived by sister, Rita Thigpen, his granddaughter Erica Smith; grandson, Sam Smith; great granddaughter Adeline Smith and great-grandson, Gunner Smith.
Mr. Smith was baptized into the fellowship of the Verda Baptist Church in 1942 and was an active member until his passing.
