Obituary for Norma Louise Maurer (Weimer)

Memorial services for Mrs. Norma (Penny) Maurer will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4925 Monroe Highway, Ball, Louisiana, with Brother Brandon Ellis officiating under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home & Crematory, Ball, Louisiana.

Norma Louise Maurer, affectionately known as Penny, fell asleep in death on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 83 years of age.

Penny was born on January 2, 1940, to Christopher Weimer (Pappap) and Ruth Grove. As a coal miner’s daughter, she was raised in the little town of Acosta, Pennsylvania. Penny and her sister Arlene, grew up in simpler times. At a young age, she met and married the love of her life, Neil Allison Maurer. This beautiful union produced her most precious possessions, her three children. As a young wife and mother, she moved to the Deep South which soon became home to her. She raised her children and made many lifelong friendships there.

She wore many hats in her lifetime - daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher and friend. And she wore them all beautifully.

Penny was a force … a lover of color, a lover of life and a lover of people. Of all the precious qualities she possessed, the most cherished and often most admired was the way she loved. She loved fiercely and without reservation. People were drawn to her warmth. She possessed a rare gift of making people feel like family. She never met a stranger and could absolutely light up a room. She found great pleasure sharing in the successes, joys, and challenges of those around her. She was authentically and wholeheartedly there for those in her life. She had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor … Her laugh was infectious and laughter was ever present when she was around. She was lighthearted and happy and there was nothing like being wrapped in one of her hugs. She felt like home. She was generous, loyal and kind. Her warmth, charm and humor are just a few of the qualities that made her so very special.

She spent many days with her fishing pole in hand, this being one of her favorite pastimes. She enjoyed the beauty of Jehovah’s creation, and she especially appreciated the beauty of flowers. She loved the sound of the ocean and made many happy memories on the beach with those she loved most.

Penny was baptized on July 30, 1958, as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses - one of the decisions she was most proud of. Until her very last breath, she was a faithful servant of her God, Jehovah. She was active in her ministry even as her health was failing - a true example of strength and faith to all those around her.

How precious she was to so many. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. She will be remembered for the love she shared with her family and friends.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 55 years, Neil Maurer, and her granddaughter, Jennifer L. Maurer.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Neil L. Maurer (and wife, Louise), Susan McPherson (and husband, Michael) and Dennis B. Maurer; four grandchildren, Travis L. McPherson (and wife, Dana), Christopher Maurer, Sommer R. McPherson and Matthew Maurer; one great grandchild, Lucy Thibodeaux . Four sisters, Arlene Dundore, Melody Snider,Lorne Drake and Pam Weyand. Two brothers, Christopher Weimer and William Weimer; and a host of dearly loved nieces, nephews, extended family and very dear friends.
