Obituary for Mattie Davidson Dean McNaughton

Mrs. Mattie Fay Davidson Dean McNaughton, age 96, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, in Alexandria at Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital.

The visitation for Mrs. Mattie will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022, at Gallagher Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Gallagher Funeral Home with Reverend Kenny Bratton officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Colfax.

Mattie was born in Pontotoc, MS, one of ten children, to Sina and Clarence Davidson on 1-19-1926. The Great Flood of 1937 forced the family to move to Sheep Ridge, TN where they made their living on the farm. In 1948, she married George “Cutt” Dean, and they made their home near Colfax, raising four children. She worked in retail for many years with Dillard’s and Weiss and Goldring. Mrs. Mattie enjoyed scrapbooking, gardening, and writing poems. She enjoyed her church families but spending time with her grandchildren and family was her greatest joy. She will forever be missed by those that loved and knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, George H. “Cutt” Dean and Robert McNaughton; daughter, Alicea C. Brown; parents, James Clarence, and Sina Davidson; and 9 siblings.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Cheryl D. Meeker (Jimmy), George “CBo” Dean (Virginia), and Karen D. Ford (Michael); special daughter, Angela F. Brown; grandchildren, Stacey Hayes (Tommy), Trent Meeker, Chad Meeker (Samantha), James J. Dean, Laura D. Tully (Jason), Nyki Paxton (Roy), Vyki Thompson (Chris), Jonathan Ford (Tasha), Jessica Fredieu (Brett); 14 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Denise Handy and Serenity Hospice for their compassion and care during this difficult time.

Pallbearers honored to serve are Jonathan Ford, Jason Tully, Brett Fredieu, Chris Thompson, Chad Meeker, and Trent Meeker. Honorary Pallbearers are Michael Ford, Tommy Hayes, Nathan Hayes, Dickie Dean, Joe Borland, Paul McGee, Roy Paxton, and Steve LaCour.
