Mary Kathryn Thornton DeWitt, age 77, of Boyce, passed away December 21, 2020 at her residence surrounded by family and friends.
Memorial Services for Mrs. Dewitt will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Gallagher Funeral Home in Ball, LA, at 2:00 PM with Reverend Danny George and Father John Cunningham officiating. Visitation for Mrs. DeWitt will be on Monday, Dec. 28, 2020 at the funeral home from 12:00 PM until the time of service.
Mrs. DeWitt is preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Sparrow, father, Harvey Bayne "Skeet" Thornton, Jr.; and sister, Dr. Susan Kathleen "Kathy" Thornton Christian; sister-in-law, Joan DeWitt Feig and husband William Bill Feig; brother-in-law, Freddie DeWitt and wife Shirley Herpeche DeWitt.
Mary was elected to the Boyce Town Council and also was elected Vice President for District "C" where she was the first woman in Louisiana to serve on the Louisiana Municipal Association Executive Board. She also served as President of the Cenla Women's Political Caucus and served on the Advisory Board of Alexandria Area Child Protection Agency. Mary always protected and looked out for all children.
Mary loved her kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 59 years, Jack Bennett DeWitt, Sr. of Boyce; children, Jack Bennett Dewitt, Jr. and wife Erin DeWitt of Metarie, LA, and Jason Brian DeWitt of Pineville, LA; grandchildren, Jack DeWitt III of Metaire, LA, Lucy DeWitt of Lawerenceville, GA, Cady DeWitt of Lawerenceville, GA, Samantha DeWitt of Woodworth, LA, Hunter DeWitt of Pineville, LA; and great grandsons, Noah DeWitt and Luke DeWitt of Woodworth; sister Marlene Weyand of Galveston, TX; brothers, William "Billy" Becker and wife Ginger Becker of Lake Sam Rayburn, TX, Loyd Thornton and wife Susan Thornton of Kemah, TX, Lee Thornton and wife Mauna Thornton of Edgewood, TX, Larry Thornton and wife Terri Thornton of Huntsville, TX, Lynn Thornton and wife Stacie Thornton of Santa Fe, TX; step-mother, Dorothy Thornton of Edgewood, TX; and sister-in-law, Betty Lou DeWitt of Boyce, LA; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
