Obituary for Mary Lena Gorum (Edwards)
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Lena Gorum will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021 at Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana with Reverend Lane Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in Flatwoods Cemetery under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation for Mrs. Gorum will be on Friday, at Gallagher Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until service time.
Mary Lena Gorum, 88 of Boyce entered eternal rest on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at the residence of her daughter and son in law in Flatwoods, La. Mrs. Gorum was born October 23, 1932 to the union of Pinkie Edwards and Ethel Edwards in Flatwoods, La. She was of the Pentecostal faith and a member of the Mora House of Prayer. Mary Lena was a loving wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother and a second mom to a whole bunch of children in the community. She always offered you something to eat if you came to her house and at every holiday, or special events where food was involved, everyone was looking for that big ole stainless pot full of chicken and dumplings. She had a reputation for making some of the best banana nut bread cakes and always having one on hand. Mary Lena loved tending to her flower garden and bushes in the yard, but her greatest joy was her one and only granddaughter.
Mary Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Murphy Gorum; parents, Pinkie and Ethel Edwards; sister, and brother in law, Joseph and Octavia Jarzyna; daughter in law, Pam Gorum.
Those left to cherish he memory include her son, Kenneth Gorum of Gardner, daughter Diana Holmes and husband, Chuck of Flatwoods, and her granddaughter, Jodie Gorum of Gardner, and a host of extended family and friends. A special thanks to Ann Murrell for taking care of her hair for all these years.
