Obituary for Mark Randall Cain
Mark Randall Cain, age 69, was born on June 24, 1951 and passed into Eternal Rest on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe, LA following a brief illness. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 21 years, Lora Sibley Cain of Sterlington, LA.; daughters Merisha Cain Aday and husband Conway of Pineville, LA and Mandi Cain McInnis and husband Lee of Ball, LA, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Cain also leaves behind one sister, Toni Rambin Winkler and husband Ronnie of Bossier City, LA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents DeMarcus Benton Cain and Myrtle Leo Cain Rambin; sister Myrna Cain Maggio and brother-in-law Charles “Charlou” Maggio of Natchitoches, LA and his beloved in-laws, Alma Ruth and Willard Sibley of Many, LA.
Mr. Cain was a 33rd degree Mason and Shriner but was not an active member in his later years due to health issues. He worked as a Police Officer for the Lafayette Police Dept. for two and a half years beginning in 1973 and worked narcotics for Region II LA State Police during that time. He left law enforcement to work offshore and in 1980 suffered a work related injury that left him permanently disabled and unable to work. Mark was a Sergeant in the Army National Guard for six years and served at Camp Beauregard in Pineville, LA. He also worked in sales for several years in the central and northeast LA areas.
He enjoyed his woodworking and was known for his cedar birdhouses and squirrel feeders; his most recent woodworking centered around building “Squirrel Saloons” in which they could saunter up to the “bar stools” and eat from a trough filled with sunflower seeds that were dispensed from liquor bottles. He enjoyed sitting in his “man cave” watching the squirrels, orioles, blue jays, red birds, woodpeckers, hummingbirds and doves that visits his feeders daily.
Mark was not only an avid bird watcher, but he also deeply loved and cared about all animals, especially the fur babies he and his wife “adopted” over the years. The couple rarely had to go to shelters to rescue animals as they often just showed up on their properties and quickly joined the family as members dearly loved and cherished by Mark and Lora. His babies, Annie and Pepper, were his pride and joy. During warmer months, he was a master chef using his smoker to cook the most delicious BBQ topped off with his homemade BBQ sauce. Family members looked forward to getting cases of his BBQ sauce for Christmas presents.
He enjoyed staying in touch with friends and family via Facebook and talking on the phone with his special niece Marla, long-time friends Richard Crooks of Alexandria, LA and B.J. Hawthorne of Natchitoches and next-door neighbor Ronnie Malone.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Gallagher Funeral Home located at 3994 Monroe Highway in Ball, LA. Haywood Davis will be officiating the service. Visitation will be held on the day of his service from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Per Mr. Cain’s wishes, there will be no graveside service as he will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to Shriner’s Hospital in Shreveport, LA or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in his honor.
