Obituary for Lena Jo McKenzie
Mrs. Lena Jo Smith McKenzie, age 88, entered eternal rest on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at the Courtyard of Natchitoches. Arrangements for Mrs. McKenzie have been entrusted to Gallagher Funeral Home in Ball, Louisiana.
Graveside Services for Mrs. McKenzie will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in Dry Prong Cemetery with Scott Tilton and Chuck LaCroix officiating.
Ms. Lena Jo was born on April 27, 1934, to her parents James and Annie Smith in Colfax, Louisiana. On December 1, 1950, in Jackson Parish she married Clarence McKenzie, and began a life together. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and Nannie. She had an eye for business and owned and operated Floyd’s Gas and Grocery and the Country Grill in Montgomery, Louisiana. Ms. Lena Jo also was an Apartment Manager in Houston, Texas. She was an excellent cook and spent as much time as she could in the kitchen preparing meals for friends and family. If she wasn’t doing the cooking, she was telling people how to clean after she was finished. She will forever be missed by those that loved and knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Z. McKenzie; parents, James and Annie Smith; brothers, JR and Milton Smith; sisters, Martha Anne McCullough and Lillie Mae Simmons; and in-laws, Lenard and Wydell McKenzie.
Those left to cherish her memory includer her daughters, Lou Ann Shelton of Montgomery, LA and Jacque McIntyre (John) of Cypress, TX; grandchildren, Melissa Turlington (Rick) of Natchitoches, LA, Deanna Adams of Coldspring, TX, Jon Ryan McIntyre (Lindsey) of Cypress, Tx, and Lindsey Jennings (Dustin) of Montgomery, TX; great grandchildren, Auston Turlington, Baden Turlington, Samuel McIntyre, Ellie Jennings, and Molly McIntyre; brother, Mike Smith (Floyce) of Quitman, LA; sister-in-law, Vivian Smith of Carlsbad, NM; and a numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers honored to serve are Auston Turlington, Baden Turlington, Jon Ryan McIntyre, Dustin Jennings, and Von Gilchrist.
