Obituary for Larry Parker, Sr.

Mr. M. Larry Parker, Sr., 80 of Colfax, Louisiana was born October 2, 1942 in Lafayette, Louisiana and left to join his heavenly father on March 18, 2023 in Alexandria, Louisiana.

After a short, world-wind courtship, he married Jane Dean of Colfax, Louisiana and on March 28th, they would have celebrated 59 years of memories but most importantly loving his most prized possession, their family.

Family members that greeted him at Heaven’s most beautiful doors were his father, William Claude Parker, Jr.; his mother, Pauline Eznack Parker; his sister in law, Amy Dean; and his brother in law, Bob Voss.

Those left to reminisce, laugh and carry on his legacy, besides his wife, Janie, are his four sons, Trey (Kelli) of Colfax, Michael (Becky) of Lena, Justin (Becky) of Watford City, North Dakota and Jeremy (Valarie) of Lena; one daughter, Jonnie Young (David) of Bentley; one bonus daughter, Petra Willhite of DeQueen. Arkansas; eight grandsons, Kenny (Allison), Justin, Ben (Camryn), Bradley (Kala), Christian (Kerrigan), Larry (Bobbie), Preston and Garrett Parker; five granddaughters, Ashley Parker, Amber Reed, Megan Vinning (Stephen), Brittany and Olivia Parker; sixteen great grandchildren, Karli, Kaleb, Kaden, Abram, Emmalynn and James Parker, Sadie and Carter Phillips, Brady Clark, Silas, Vivian and John Vinning, Elizabeth, Manuel and Elijah Harris and Bea-Lynn Reed with four new sweeties on the way; and three sisters, Pat Voss, Julie Parker, Pam Johnson (Terry), along with a bonus sister, Laura Michael. He was also very fortunate to have bonus blessings, Hailey, Sydney, Jacob, Garrett, Madison, Nayara and Jonathan, along with many nieces, nephews, other family and an abundance of friends.

Mr. Larry graduated from Boyce High School in 1960 and was a highly talented catcher for their baseball team. After high school, he worked anywhere from farm management to many construction projects until he retired. His main, most important work adventure was an international land developer that allowed him and the family to experience Africa, Brazil and later, Puerto Rico. His love of politics contributed to his devotion to his country and community later serving as Justice of the Peace in Grant Parish for many years.

A few fun facts about Mr. Larry are he always could keep you up to date with the weather and loved doing so by watching the weather channel. Visiting, drinking coffee and telling stories were his specialty and if you ever heard one, consider yourself fortunate and smile. He never met a stranger and keeping his phone handy was an important factor for him to keep in touch. He loved to get family to do things for him and would quickly tell them “Don’t tell Nanie” (AKA Janie). Those famous last words will be greatly missed.

Pallbearers who are honored to carry him are his grandsons, Kenny, Justin, Ben, Bradley, Christian, Larry and Preston Parker and his nephew, Robert Voss.

Honorary Pallbearers are Junior McGee, Benji Littlepage, David Young, Deanie Dean and Sam Daniels.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 21, 2023 from 5:00-8:00 pm and until the service time at 10:00 am Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Colfax, Louisiana with Brother Bob Boyt officiating. Mason ceremony will follow the service. Interment will be at Dark-Neal Cemetery, Boyce, Louisiana. After the service, fellowship will be at the home of grandson Larry (Bobbie) at 450 River Rd in Colfax. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please donate a memorial contribution in honor of Mr. Larry to Walnut Grove Baptist Church.
