Senior Master Sergeant James C. Mallard, age 95, of Alexandria, Louisiana entered eternal rest on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He is now happy and whole once again, reunited with his loving wife of 64 years, Bettie Joe McGuire Mallard who preceded him in death in 2020.
James was a generous, loving son, husband, father, uncle and grandfather. He was “J.C.” or “Shorty” to his six siblings; “Jim” to his loving wife; “Daddy” to his children; “Uncle Jimmy” to his nieces and nephews; and “Papaw” to his three beautiful granddaughters.
He loved fishing, watching wrestling, working on cars, and maintaining a pristine lawn. His yard was the gold standard for the neighborhood until his health began to decline at the ripe old age of 94.

James served his country proudly for over 28 years as a member of the United States Air Force and United States Army. His service began at age 17 when he served in Europe during World War II. This Louisiana boy met the love of his life, an Alabama girl, in Brooklyn, NY where they were each stationed. After marrying, James moved on to Hawaii while Bettie finished her hitch in New York. She joined him in Hawaii a year later. James’ military service took the couple to Austin, TX where their son was born. Assignments in London, England and Minot, North Dakota saw the births of their two daughters. Eventually, James was deployed to Vietnam leaving his family behind in Alabama. He retired in 1973 at England Air Force Base in Alexandria. In retirement, James owned an air conditioning and refrigeration repair business and focused on raising his family.

James was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bettie Joe McGuire Mallard; his parents, Ross and Rosa Mallard; three brothers, Billy, John, and Fred Mallard; and three sisters, Clariece Wright, Lena Langston Wieschhaus, and Olyece Butler.
James is survived by his son, David Mallard (Sheila); two daughters, Donna Tate and Terri Spinosa (Lucas); three granddaughters, Gracie Tate (Cole Huden), Lucia Spinosa (Andrew Calmes), and Ally Spinosa; three step-grandchildren, Misty Kneeland (Chad), Dustin Britt, and Abby Richmond (Justin); five step-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be David Mallard, Lucas Spinosa, Cole Huden, Andrew Calmes, and Alan Mallard.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to James’ caregiver, Constance McDade, whom James himself called a “Godsend.” Her hard work and loving personality made his final months much more comfortable.
