Obituary for James Earl Cannon

James Earl Cannon (Jimmy), 72, of Tullos, passed from this life on Saturday, July 9, 2022.

Jimmy was born April 19, 1950 to the union of Alton “Red” and Beverly Flynn Cannon of Georgetown.

He also had the nickname “Cannonball” and was a loving and very generous father, grandfather, brother, neighbor, and friend. Jimmy graduated from Georgetown High School in 1968. He enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Army (Vietnam Veteran) and was awarded the Bronze Star “V”, Army Commendation Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge plus numerous marksmanship medals. Later his occupations were working on offshore and land rigs as well as driving for various trucking /logging companies.

A military memorial service will be held Saturday, July 16 at 10 a.m. at Zion Cemetery in Georgetown.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his daughter, Jayme Young (Jason) of Sterlington; granddaughters Gabby and Harley; brothers Robert Cannon (Sherry) of Baton Rouge and Guy Cannon (Diana) of Newcastle, OK; sister, Carolyn Oliver (Terry) of Georgetown; nephews Matthew, Phillip, Brad, Ryan, and Terry (Lauren), nieces Callie (Travis) and Michelle, great-nephews Drew, Eli, Barrett, Rhett, and Flynn, and great-niece, Lena. He leaves behind his loyal pets- Trouble, Sissy, and Cat.
