Obituary for Charles Ward

Charles Edward “The Rev” Ward

Beloved Cenla citizen, Charles “The Rev” Ward passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at age 70. He was a gifted photographer and musician who brought joy to many with his talents, often volunteering them to provide lively entertainment and fresh memories to all.

Charles was a graduate of Menard High School ¬and of Northwestern La State University with master’s work in Anthropology. After college, he worked at the National Archives in Atlanta before returning to central Louisiana where he provided computer support and network management. He could often be found at Spirit’s Food and Friends where he booked, cheered on, photographed and nurtured young musicians. He was also an unstinting advocate for LGBTQ and minority rights.
Charles is survived by his son, Thomas Anthony Ward (Nicole) and a granddaughter, Keira Ripley Ward, of Firestone, Colorado, sisters Frances Johanson of Pineville, Elizabeth Ward of Wichita Falls, TX and Margaret Knight of Columbia, SC and one brother Richard Alvah Ward, and many nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss him tremendously. He was preceded in death by his parents Kelly Ward and Carroll Moore Ward and wife Sophie Elaine Goss.
We owe special debt of gratitude to Susan Darby Ward who cared so lovingly for him and Joe and Claudette Fink who always were there to provide support .
