Obituary for Yves Leon Henry

Services celebrating the life of Mr. Yves Leon “Y.L.” Henry will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018, in the chapel of Gallagher Funeral Home in Ball, Louisiana with Dr. Stewart Holloway officiating. Friends may visit on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Gallagher Funeral Home in Ball, Louisiana from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory, Ball, Louisiana.

Mr. Y.L. Henry, age 81, of Pineville, Louisiana, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at The Oaks Care Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Beaver, LA on January 3, 1937, to Adam and Amelia Fontenot Henry. He attended Pine Prairie High School and LSU in Baton Rouge, where he earned both a B.S. in Physical Education and Master’s in Social Work. He served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany for the majority of his service.

Y.L. was employed by the State of Louisiana for thirty plus years, retiring from the Dept. of Health and Hospitals, where he conducted surveys for licensing and certification of long term care facilities. He enjoyed fishing, wood carving, music, playing and watching sports. Baseball was his passion and he shared his love for the game with many that he coached. One of his greatest joys was watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He was actively involved in playing and coaching softball for many years. He enjoyed telling jokes and stories and will be lovingly remembered for his unselfish devotion to his family. He was a member of Pineville First Baptist Church.

Mr. Henry is preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Amelia Fontenot Henry; sisters, Lessie Fugler, Adele Mock, Eileen Potts Thornberry, and Carrie Henry; and brother, Milton Leroy Henry.

Y.L. is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Cardozier Henry; daughter, Melissa Henry Bordelon (Dennis) of Pineville; son, Michael Leon Henry (Leigh) of Denham Springs, Louisiana; grandchildren, Jacob Parker, Kelly Lohman, Michael Henry II, and Austin Henry; sister, Ina Henry Sarkies of New Iberia; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.

Pallbearers honored to serve are Jacob Parker, Richard Mock, Dennis Potts, Michael Sarkies, Joe Sarkies, Trey Silk, and William Silk. Honorary pallbearers are Tom Silk, Donald Sarkies, and Jimmy Holsomback.

The family appreciates the care provided by All Saints Hospice and The Oaks Care Center.
