James "Jim" Monroe Childress was born June 27, 1932 in Austin, Texas as one of thirteen children to Annie Morris and William Childress. He returned to his Heavenly Father on November 19, 2015 to join his parents and many siblings who preceded him in death. Those left to carry on his memory include his loving wife of 45 years Lillie Ruth Childress, son James Monroe Childress II, daughters Lisa Antley, Renee Wickersham Nugent, Sharon Montgomery as well as two step daughters Patty and Cathy. He shared many memories fishing and hunting with his eleven grandchildren Dustin Barton, Delisha Smith, Joey Dugas, Jaidyn Dugas, Cole Childress, Reese Childress, Christopher Childress, Jordan Childress, Ryan Childress, Cory Childress and Michelle Wilcox.

James was known to many as "Sonny". He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force retiring with honors. During his service he was a member of the USAF softball team traveling worldwide.

He was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors. His building talent and handyman skills were evident in every area of his life.

Jim was always willing to go the extra mile and extend a helping hand to those around him. He will be sadly missed.

In saying goodbye the family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Gallagher's Funeral Home, Samantha McManus, Shannon Smiley and other staff at Colfax Reunion who went above and beyond in caring for Jim as well as those at Winnfield Specialty Hospital for their compassion and support.
